Tonight was like any other ordinary quest when we were suddenly disturbed...1st cast n then boom...1st hit...It was striked by de 1.5kg of Mr Kaci or Sweetlips. Just as i landed de fish, then, de unexplanable thing happened. So, me n Hafiz slowly pack up n move away from the spot thus deciding on other location..Casting lure til de early morning..n we called it a day.

Tonight quest, with me, Surfcaster Syed and Surfcaster Hafiz. The cold night came alive when, my Penn Long Range rod was furiously bend doubled!. The ratched on my Daiwa SealineX30sha was screaming out loud as a monster made off with the bait. I jumped up, forced the rod out from the stand and hit the hook home...but,..suddenly...!!!, The fish started bulldozing himself against me on a slow but a sustained non-stop kind of a cho-cho train run. Even on a already tightened drag, my 15lb line was being stripped to near botakness in just less than 5mins. I was in awe and shocked by the brute force and had to give everything to slow him down. At this time, Surfcaster Hafiz was holding the gaff ever vigilant. After a series of tug-of-war, i finally mananged to turned the head of the fish. Now, i was in control and i was steadily pumping the whatever monster towards me, thus regaining my line back... Allhamdulilah, i won the battle and the fish was gaff and landed safely...all thanks to Hafiz..

Casting far with a pendullum style technic proved to be lethal...Rod used was a remodified 13'2ft Penn Long Range paired with a Daiwa SealineX 30sha. I had to lower the line poundage and had used a 0.30mm diameter Xzorga line to be able to hit the horizon with most of my casts.

The Ikan Duri was denied entry into my 16quart Coleman icebox...I had fogotten to bring my butcher knife..So, i had to go back home to store and freeze the fish and thus returned back here again to rejoin my kaki, Hafiz...The next day, the fish was then sliced into two pieces, one for Hafiz and one for my mum..

The next day in my house..my mum was cooking the deliciously assam pedas with the fresh Ikan Duri....

The end result, and it was the best assam pedas i've ever eaten. Two Thumbs Up...!!!Sedap..! The art of being a surfcaster was based on having a single minded approach to accomplish the impossible. Iam sure Bro Isa was a natural orang laut stuck in this era of time. He was having a resolute patience mind for monsters and always improvised his rigs and tactics. He's also an accomplish distance caster armed with Neil Mackellow's pendullum style of casting. This time, his efforts was duly rewarded with a hit by a monster 10kg Ikan Pari Lalat or Spotted Stingray. It was his second monster stingray in a month. What a start to score early into de new year...The famed bro Isa of Team Nelayan Inc caught a 15kilos Stingray at noon Cp7. The monster gave him a real workout....before being landed. He's using his trusted Zziplex M4 paired with Daiwa GrandwaveZ 30 to tamed the monster. He's also using his perfected pully rig, thus casting the pendullum Neil Mackellow style of swinging. My team congratulate him on his feat. Me n my team are proud to be Surfcasters and we love to Surfcast...

Our frantic surfcasting excursions were aiming only at big-game fishing. It was fast becoming like a kind of madness and not pleasure anymore. So, we decided to have a kind of relax fishing trip and, we visited my old fishing playground which i've not gone for almost 2years. Bro Isa from the Team Nelayan Incoporated was surfcasting solo for the day.....But, now, he's posing with his awesome catch of a 20kg Shovelnose Ray or Ikan Kemejan...my estimation..

The Kemejan really gave him a fierce tug-of-war face to face confrontation fight for almost 30mins....but he prevailed to the end and won thus landed the beauty safely....

The key ingredients for Bro Isa's success was having a highly inventive mine to create his own innovative rigs coupled with strong empowered will to practice and improved his pendullum casting ability with having a highly determined-patience will to catch monsters...With his achievement, he had made most fishermans especially me and my team proud to be shore-based Surfcasters...

The centre part of the Kemejan was so thick...!!! Bro Isa was using his trusted 13'ft Zziplex M4 with Daiwa Grandwave z30 as his weapons of choice to tamed the monster...

We were already planning for a overnight fishing outing for a long time...So, off we go to Changi...with me, Jacq, Patrick and Shaun doin surfcasting, starting from late yesterday night...

The only highlight yesterday was when Surfcaster Patrick, had a big bite but lost the fish while reeling it halfway due to foul hook...From the bending of his Abu vintage rod, we could accss the size was a huge monster of a fish..!!! We were shakened up after that..

In the morning, Patrick and Shaun called it a day, while me and Jacq soldiered on. We were aiming to fish the afternoon high tide. By now, the sun was up, and it was very hot....We were taking refuge in the sheltered huts behind...We were fast turning into zombies...when...!!!

Suddenly, Jacq, shouting at me..while she's pointing at the direction of the centre rod..telling me, that she'd saw it dipping twice...but, before i could have turned my head and looked...my ears were hearing the loud ratchet alarm sound...!!!...Without, hesitation..i lept out of the hut and ran towards it..without my crocs..too...he..he...!! I clearly saw, my 12'6ft Penn inxs-2 long range rod was already into a 'C' position...!!!

The feelings was mutual and likened my past fishing days...in early 90's at Changi Hyundai reclaimed land...why? Because, now, iam in a squatting posture and am trying very hard to take the rod out from the stand...The pressured pulling power of the fish had made it jammed stucked there...My Daiwa sealine x 30sha was still screaming out loud non stop in pain..!!!

I mananged to released the rod and gave a solid strike...But, even with an already tightened drag...my 20lb Sufix Synergy line was peeling out and more than half of it was dissapearing...fast...!!!

Jacq, then shouted to me that she'd just saw a very big fish jumping out of the water, far away..Still, my heart whispered silently for names like...Siakap..ke.or..Kim bak lor...meh...? I kept steadily holding the rod..not knowing what the fish was...

The fish finally slowed down after a 15mins struggled of tug-of-war mode with me, by now, iam pumping the fish hard towards me..and was gaining line again...It was a tiring ordeal given by the heavy weight of the fish...Coming nearer, the fish was sprinting in different directions..coupled with some more incredible acrobat jumps in between...It was a Sa Muo Kong...or Ikan Talang..Jacq was filming the action...

I landed it safely and noticed a few Bata fishes too..

Me, Surcaster Syed, pictured wt the Queenfish or Ikan Talang...The fish was quite heavy for picture taking....but, i couldn't access the weight because i did not bring any scale...I tried hard to revived the fish for release but it died due to exhausion.

We were very2 sad, but nevertheless, the fish was brought back and being weighted in at a 34.1lb....so, it was at 15.5kilos......

The head was thick and the length was more than half of the stone table bench there...

The fish could not fit into my 16Quard Coleman icebox...Tks, for reading..and best of tight lines to all Surfcasters...

A Grand Gathering...

The legendary Bro Rizan of the Singapore Sea Brothers in one of his many fishing excursions..He'd have my grandest salute of respect for a real hardcore..fisherman of his age...What i mean was, this guy breathes and lives for the love and passion for fishing...He's more gila pancing than i was when i am in my twenties...He's the true real deal seasoned fisherman....

Me, with, bro Salleh of Distance Surfcasting Group...He's a legend surfcasting speciallist and a seasoned fisherman.....Just to be able to watch him cast ...the right moments...swaying....the rod...either in pendullum or on the ground, then swingging, loading the rod at the right time was a very big learning experience for me...

Bro Isa of the Team Nelayan Inc, was a true fishing legend professional, always learning new tactics and rigs to improvised himself further into the arts of surfcasting...A humble and a seasoned hardcore fisherman..And, just by looking at his rigs was an eye opener for me...

Our fishing experiences, ghost-stories and some fishing politics were the topics throughout the night..By 5am, we called it a day, but nevertheless, we were in high spirits and happy together..for me, it was a grand gathering....peh...piao...

We mananged to surfcast today after a long layoff to surfcasting. N, upon reaching there, my sis, Alia, shows off her unique talent for anime drawing.

The weather was fine today but the tides were unfavourable to us....We were endlessly practising casting to improved ourselves..

Upon retrieving my line to check bait, a very tiny Angel fish was stuck to the hook..

Luckily for the fella, the hook was pierced through the top of his body..I released it carefully...and back to the water...

After being so much busy with work...at last, we've got some free time and what a good way to do except fishing today? And i wonder if the fishes knew about our national day today. Upon reaching there, i was hit with the Ikan Gelam. But, to my surprised, iv'e forgot to brought the camera. Luckily, Mateen and Jacq got their camera phones....

Next up, i noticed my line being loose. I slowly reeled in the slackened line and waited for a minute till i felt a small nibble. This time, i striked. Iam using a light tackle and i mananged to have a tug of war with the whatever fish. It was diving strongly everytime when it's halfway up.

Next up was the other fisherman of the night, Mateen. He was asking me for the special bait and at last...his rod was in a suddened U-shape and line was peeling off vigorously. He striked....n FiSh On..!!! The fight was so incredibly...hard. The whatever fish was going on a one way ticket mode. I could see the small cute baby daiwa reel really screaming in pain and nearly botak...but, he calmly won the 15mins intensed battle, only by using his light tackle only...powerlah...!!!

Mateen was reeling in his line, when he noticed a Ketam Renjung or Flower Crab was at the end of it. The crab had hooked itself. Upon picture taking, the crab was released...The day was getting darker as we could sense a storm coming. The water temperature was getting cold at this time....

A Night Of Sweet Silence..

I mananged to fish overnite today, after being stuck with so much work commitments. Today's fishing was very poor, till late 3am when my rod shows a nibble.

I reel in some slack line and true to my instints, i strike it home...Got a gut feeling, the fish might have swallowed the bait and was swimming towards me... I was fighting the fish in a dangerous predicament, whereby its just below the jetty railings...and its was taking out line...!!!

The fish was hooked by our lightest tackle with Berkley Ironsilk 8lb as the main line there...Iam so careful in this battle till the whole fight took me to 30mins.

It was subduced, and out came a 1kg Sweetlip or Kaci, and, by looking at it, it had a bright pretty patterns of colours on the body. Definitely, it was a male.

It was a Vintaged performance from Mateen, who was making history by becoming the team member to break the Duck & thus, began our opening ceremony, for the 1st catch, of 2008... He, Mateen, had witnessed a nibble on the rod. Then, he proceed, holding on to the rod, patiently for around 10mins before striking,....A 800g Kaci or Sweetlips gave him quite a struggle before it was landed safely....

I've just managed to break my duck with a small Ikan Mertimun which was released back safely.
Suddenly, my rod immediately had an another nibble when i've just rebait & cast it out. Still holding on to the rod, i waited for quite a while before whacking it. I could sense its decent size as the fish gave me quite a resistance. Being a careful angler, i reeled it in gently. It was a Ikan Gelam, the smaller cousins of the bigger Kbl or Siakap...

A View To A Kill....Swan River Fishing - [4th day]

There are corals aplenty coupled with blue blue water where we were fishing. But beware........its a blowfish country...
They are everywhere!!!! They are like pests!!! Wherever you cast (nearer to the jetty), you are bound to hook one up. This "pest" was released after the photo session.

My first cast in the middle of the river resulted in a nibble....I was using a dead prawn as bait, hooked on a no:3/0 Owner wt no:1/0 as a keeper hook. Then, to my surprise, my line began to peel away in a gentle manner.....!!!!

After, the strike...suddenly, my rod began to bend over double.....I was shouting for my wife to videocam me...but in her panicky state, she forgot where she kept placed it.....Even, as she was taking my pictures, at that time, i could see her hands trembling (with excitement)......My Penn Powergraph Surf rod was a jetty rod.....It has a stiffer tip action compared with a beachcasting rod..but....then, whatever the fish it was, changed direction (& speed), was swimming against the current....rendering me helpless...I was trying to slow the fish down but.....to no avail...!!!!.... After, 3 mins later, the fish decide to gear up again....!!!!

By this time, my Daiwa reel was screeching loudly (like a banshee).......My line began peeling off at an extremely fast speed......AND IT WAS ON A ONE-WAY-TICKET-MODE!!!!.... I could not control the fight...nor slow it down.....Even my drag was almost in full lock.....Whatever it was....IT MUST BE DARN SUPER BIG!!!....Then, after 5mins later, the unimaginable thing happened.......my line went slack and snapped, it broke...I guess it was due to it rubbing off the corals at a fast speed....I was shaken by this incident.....even till now...

For a fanatic surfcaster like me, there's no other better place to surfcast other than here in Australia....Well, at least, i don't feel like a tourist, walking, looking, and eating air...I brought along my big-game surfcast set....and managed to convinced my wife, Jacque, for my mostly fishing quest, while we were here....
